Tonight we narrowly lost to Long Ashton by 3 shots gaining 2 rink points. It would have been good to have won but we had sown up the league title last week, however Long Ashton really played well and deserved their victory.
The A team beat Taunton Deane today winning on all 3 rinks to collect 12 points which probably means we should avoid relegation this year. Unfortunately it was a different story for the B team, losing on all 3 rinks to come away from Burnham empty handed.
A short video of Tim Winmill has been uploaded showing Tim delivering his last bowl on the last end this can be found by going to Video and Players on the menu at the top of this page. There will be more videos posted in the future.
A great win tonight against Congresbury who were the only team with a chance of catching us in the league, which means we have won the Britannia Windows C & D Evening League title for 2019 with 2 games to go. Well done RBL
All 3 teams were playing today in the County League with mixed results. The A Team travelled to Purnells, winning on 2 rinks but losing the match by just 5 shots. The B Team were at home to Chew Stoke but were soundly beaten, only managing to win on 1 rink to gain 2 points. The C Team were at home to Yatton and won quite easily 66-42 to gain 10 valuable points to keep them in 3rd place in the table.
We hosted a very strong Clevedon team tonight in the National Two Rink competition, losing on both rinks, Nick Pearce soundly beat Don Everett’s rink. Neil Westlake had a much closer game with Steve Secker’s rink but the last few ends weren’t played because of the scores.
Good win tonight away to Clevedon Prom, winning 3 rinks and gaining 7 points takes us a little closer to winning the C & D Evening League. Next weeks game against Congresbury could be the title decider.
On a very hot day in Wedmore we had a resounding win over our nearest rivals in the C & D Triples League by 119-96 and gaining 9 of the 10 points. This improves our chances of winning the League but there are still 6 matches to play so it’s not over yet.
A great win tonight in the Turnbull Cup against Nailsea winning on all 4 rinks. Our next opponents will be Clevedon who have knocked us out of 2 competitions this year. So perhaps time for revenge!
We played Portishead tonight in the North Somerset Cup on the top green, which is now playing much better than earlier in the season. We managed to win on all 5 rinks and the game was played in the right spirit, I think everyone enjoyed the fantastic weather. Tonight it was the turn of RBL but I’m sure Portishead will try and get revenge the next time we meet.
Tonight it was Congresbury again at home, this time it was the Four Dimension competition, which consists of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. In the singles Steve Secker got off to a shaky start and was 1-10 down after just 6 ends but managed to turn it round and won 21-17. The pairs were a different story, they were 0-14 down after 5 ends and never recovered losing 5-38. The fours won by just 3 shots in a very close game. The triples were the last to finish with Congresbury needing a 7 on the last end to win, Reg Birmingham killed the end but RBL managed to pick up 3 shots in the replayed end to run out winners 23-14. So a 3-1 victory fo RBL.
